The Editor's Page: Preparing for the show

In addition to your January 2014 issue, this month you also are receiving a copy of The Hot List 2014. This is the eighth consecutive year Rental Management has published this award-winning supplement, featuring new products exhibitors will have on display for the first time at The Rental Show, which is scheduled for Feb. 9-12, 2014, at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla.

Each year, we ask exhibitors to submit products for consideration to be included in The Hot List.

The product must be new to the equipment rental industry and not have appeared on an exhibitor’s booth before. Updated products
without significant changes or those with just new packaging do not qualify.

More exhibitors than ever submitted products for consideration this year and The Hot List includes products from more than 145 companies, by far the most products we have ever featured in The Hot List.

Then again, the equipment rental industry is hot. Revenue continues to grow at a pace that’s four times the gross domestic product (GDP) in the United States and is forecast to increase 8 percent to reach $41 billion in 2014, according to the latest projections from the ARA Rental Market Monitor™.

The American Rental Association (ARA), organizer of The Rental Show, also has made a concentrated effort to encourage exhibitors to offer Show-Only Specials. The response has been overwhelming as more than 160 companies will be offering some sort of special deal for show attendees only and more companies are signing up to do so each day.

The countdown clock to the show at ARA headquarters in Moline, Ill., is ticking away as we close in on 30 days away from the show’s opening.

The message here is that excitement is building, exhibitors are primed to have a good show and now is the time for those attending the show to prepare, because the time in Orlando will speed by.

The exhibit hall has at least 675 exhibitors this year covering about 290,000 sq. ft. of exhibit space and attendees will have 19 total hours of time available on the show floor to visit vendors and make deals on Feb. 10-12. There’s a full day of seminars on Feb. 9, the Events & Tents workshop all day on Feb. 8 for those in the party and event segment, other seminars on Feb. 11 and 12, and plenty of networking opportunities at the show from Lunch With ARA and Regional Receptions to ARA’s Big Splash at SeaWorld® Orlando.

To help you plan your time wisely at the show, we have our extensive annual preview section in this issue. There also are product sections featuring items from exhibitors and then there’s The Hot List to give you an early peek at what some of the new things will be on the floor, so that you can figure out which booths you might want to target.

There also are 80 first-time exhibitors this year and a list of those companies and the types of products they have can be found.

If you haven’t registered yet, advance registration pricing for The Rental Show will continue to be available before Jan. 31 with a saving of $25 on full registration and $30 on exhibits only registration. See you in Orlando.
