Sunbelt Rentals: Company's acquisition activity picks up pace

Sunbelt Rentals, Fort Mill, S.C., has been active in acquisitions lately, acquiring the business and assets of Contractors’ Equipment Co., a general tool company based in Joplin, Mo., and MAC Leasing, a multi-location rental and financing arm of North Dakota-based manufacturing company MAC.

Contractors’ Equipment Co., established in 1996, has served the Midwest rental market with locations in Joplin; Tulsa, Okla.; and Rogers and Little Rock, Ark. Sunbelt said the acquired locations are complementary to the company’s recent new store openings in Memphis, Tenn., and Kansas City, Mo.

“The acquisition of Contractors’ Equipment Co. fits well with our geographic expansion into the Midwest and brings with it an excellent team that will allow us to broaden the service network and product offering to our customers,” said Keith Dressendorfer, Sunbelt’s Central Plains district manager.

MAC, Bismarck, N.D., specializes in the production, sale, rental and service of industrial heaters and support equipment, as well as the manufacturing of frac and oil production tanks and a variety of trailers, including single axle, satellite, tandem axle and fifth wheel gooseneck models.

MAC Leasing, established in 1983 and restructured in 2010, focused specifically on the rental and service of its heating products, a line that includes indirect-fired, flameless and hydronic surface heaters ranging in size from 200,000 to 4.2 million Btu per hour. As Sunbelt assumes this portion of the business, a large share of the customer base will continue to be devoted to the oil and gas industry, as well as the industrial and commercial heating markets.

“We are pleased to announce this strategic acquisition,” said Brendan Horgan, Sunbelt Rentals CEO. “MAC has established an excellent reputation in the market for producing high quality heaters and their products align well with the fleet and capabilities currently provided by our Pump & Power Services specialty division. The addition of MAC heaters not only bolsters our equipment offering, but will allow Sunbelt to more effectively service our valued customers.”

“The divestiture of our rental business allows MAC to focus solely on its manufacturing and distribution functions while serving energy, airline, commercial and residential consumers with heating solutions,” said Michael Seifert, MAC CEO. “With the sale of the rental business to Sunbelt, MAC’s largest customer, MAC Leasing, just became much larger. We are bullish about our future relationship with Sunbelt.”
