  • Karl’s Event Services, Oak Creek, Wis., has been acquired by the Arena Group, a global provider of temporary structures, seating, design and overlay services to support delivery of live events. Arena operates from multiple locations in the U.K., the United Arab Emirates (Dubai), Singapore, Malaysia, Portugal, Spain and now the United States. Some events Arena has supported include the London Olympics, Wimbledon and Abu Dhabi Formula 1. Karl’s has been in the U.S. since 1966 and supports a variety of events throughout the United States, including the NFL Super Bowl and the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week as well as PGA and NASCAR events. The partnership is expected to help further both companies’ strategy by benefiting and sharing best practices both nationally and internationally. “Both organizations, Arena and Karl’s, have a similar vision for strategic growth and I could not think of a better partner to support that vision using Karl’s as a platform here in the Americas,” said John Haener, CEO and president of Karl’s.
  • EDCO — Equipment Development Co., Frederick, Md., has launched a new manufacturing division. For more than 50 years, EDCO has manufactured surface preparation and sawing equipment. Now after investments on new manufacturing technology, the company has started EDCO Fabrication. EDCO Fabrication is a full-service provider of contract manufacturing services, specializing in laser cutting, forming and welding. The division also offers machining, assembly, powder coating, wet painting and worldwide shipping.
  • National Trench Safety (NTS), a Houston-based company specializing in the rental and sales of trench and traffic safety equipment, as well as OSHA-compliant training classes, has acquired certain operating assets of Stone Pump and Trench, Charleston, S.C., as well as its Charlotte and Fayetteville, N.C., branch operations. “We are very excited to be strengthening our existing footprint in the Carolinas. We believe there’s a significant amount of potential for growth in the Mid-Atlantic region. Charlotte is a very large metropolitan area with a diverse mix of highway and utility construction, while Fayetteville will put NTS in a position to better service the needs of the Raleigh and Eastern North Carolina markets. When combined with the operations we opened last year in Burlington, N.C. and Charleston, S.C., the acquired locations in Charlotte and Fayetteville will provide customers an unequaled trench and traffic safety partner in the Carolinas,” said Ron Chilton, president of NTS. The new North Carolina locations are the 19th and 20th branch locations for National Trench Safety in the United States. NTS now has operations in Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Louisiana, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.
  • Nissan Forklift Corp., North America has joined forces with TCM America under a new name, UniCarriers Americas Corp., effective April 1, 2013. UniCarriers Americas Corp. is a division of UniCarriers Corp. headquartered in Tokyo. UniCarriers Holdings is the parent company of UniCarriers. Although the company has a new name, its employees, processes and products will remain the same. With head offices in Marengo, Ill., the new company says it will continue its commitment to excellence and its drive to be a valued partner across its network of authorized dealers. “We are excited to combine the resources, service and strong brand promise of these two companies to form a stronger market presence that will offer a broader range of products and technical service with the UniCarriers brand,” said Peter Kruse, president, UniCarriers Americas Corp. Kruse is leading the management team of the new entity. UniCarriers will encompass five brands: Nissan Forklift, TCM, Atlet, Barrett and UniCarriers. To transition the brand equity of the non-UniCarriers brands to UniCarriers, all trucks will display a “by UniCarriers” endorsement beginning June 1, 2013.
