Bidding was fast and furious again this year at the latest ARA Foundation Charity Auction held during the Reception With a Purpose at The Rental Show 2013 in Las Vegas. The reception offered attendees the chance to enjoy a fast-paced live auction while also raising $81,150 for the programs the ARA Foundation provides to the equipment rental industry.
Attendees made generous bids on 32 items donated by exhibitors during the charity auction, the highlight of the reception, including a trip to Red Rock Ranch in Oklahoma, four tickets for the Gehl Club at Miller Park for a Milwaukee Brewers game, a weekend package for the John Deere Classic golf tournament in July and a Disney vacation package.
The final item up for bid, a reproduction Wayne Model 615 visible gasoline pump detailed with Harley Davidson Motor Co. colors and logo decals, had an estimated value of $2,200 and sold for $5,500.
“The success of the ARA Foundation Reception With a Purpose and Charity Auction was outstanding,” says Catherine DeBusk, CERP, vice president, Party People Rentals, Phoenix, and chair of the ARA Foundation board of trustees.
“The auction was exciting and energetic. Thanks to the generosity of our exhibitors and rental members, we are once again poised to continue programs including scholarships, advising, disaster relief and recovery, among the other philanthropic services the ARA Foundation supports. My sincere thanks to all those who helped to make the Reception With a Purpose a fantastic success,” DeBusk says.
“The purpose of the ARA Foundation as the industry’s philanthropic organization is now well-recognized. Participation in the charity auction in Las Vegas was amazing this year, with very generous ending bids on the vacations, products and equipment contributed by exhibitors. These donations will be put to good use by the ARA Foundation board of trustees to further educational and business opportunities within the industry for both students and business owners,” says Christine Wehrman, executive director, ARA Foundation.
Fred Hageman had the winning bid on the John Deere Classic Weekend Package. “I’ve always loved John Deere. I’ve always owned John Deere tractors,” said Hageman, principal at Rental Acquisitions, Cameron Park, Calif. “We’re big golf fans and it’s good for the ARA Foundation. I’ve volunteered on committees for the American Rental Association in the past and this is another way to give back to the industry.”
The Reception With a Purpose was sponsored by Chicago Pneumatic Construction Equipment, Genie, Graco and Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, which also hosted the auction.
