Reaching new heights

This month Rental Management looks at aerial equipment including scissor lifts, boom lifts and telehandlers.
 

Manitou telehandler

The model MT 5519 telescopic handler from Manitou Americas, West Bend, Wis., has a low-profile compact frame with an overall height of 6 ft. 4 in. and turning radius of 11 ft. The low-profile boom reaches to a height of 19 ft. 1 in. and has the same welded box-section design that is on the larger MT Series telescopic handlers for a 5,500-lb. lift capacity. Internal wet disc service brakes are standard equipment along with a SAHR (Spring-Applied, Hydraulic-Release) parking brake, which is automatically applied when the engine is shut off or manually by pressing a rocker switch.

Equipter lift container

The RV4000 Equipter self-propelled and towable container from New Heights, Paradise, Pa., is designed to maneuver into tight spaces. The container lifts more than 11 ft. to catch debris or transport materials. Its 4-ft. rollback mechanism extends the Equipter’s 4-cu.-yd. container to protect landscaping.

Skyjack scissor lift

The SJIII 3219 DC electric scissor lift from Skyjack, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, has a 3-ft. roll-out extension deck, a 25-ft. working height, a 550-lb. capacity and 25 percent gradeability. The SJIII 3219 has variable-speed
front-wheel drive and 90-degree steering. The unit has steel swing-out component trays for unrestricted maintenance and service access.

Genie/Terex Aerial Work Platforms telehandler

The Genie® GTH™-844B telehandler from Genie/Terex Aerial Work Platforms, Redmond, Wash., is designed to replace the company’s existing GTH-844 model and is expected to be in production in the fourth quarter 2012. The GTH-844B telehandler has a maximum lift height of 44 ft. with a maximum reach of 28 ft. and a gross lifting capacity of 8,000 lbs. The GTH-844B has a Tier 4i diesel engine, a change in engine position from center-rear mount to right-side mount, an ergonomic operator’s station and a narrowed width to 96 in. Engine options include Deutz or Perkins. The GTH-844B has a tiltable steering wheel, an updated single-lever joystick control, and new gauge and switch packages.

JLG boom lift

The X550AJ compact crawler boom from JLG Industries, McConnellsburg, Pa., an Oshkosh Corp. company, has a 55-ft. working height, 21-ft. horizontal reach and platform capacity of 440 lbs. The boom’s design includes a tracked wheel carriage that climbs steps and a narrow chassis for access through standard doorways. The company says its low gross vehicle weight (GVW) allows the X550AJ to be used on sensitive flooring and landscaping.

Haulotte scissor lift

The C2668RT rough-terrain scissor lift from Haulotte Group, L’Horme, France, and Archbold, Ohio, has a Kubota Tier 4 engine, which complies with the Tier 4 standard. The company says the new engine offers significant noise reduction and reduces fuel consumption by about 5 percent compared to the previous engine.
The machine has four-wheel drive, 11-in. ground clearance and an automatic hydraulic differential lock to enable the machine to climb steeper slopes and work on uneven ground. One switch can deploy and retract all four outriggers simultaneously with auto-leveling capabilities. The outside turning radius is 11 ft. 6 in. Foam-filled tires, swing entry gate and foldable guard rails are standard.

   Absolute E-Z Up push-around lift

The ISP-7M™ push-around vertical platform from Absolute E-Z Up (AEUP), Charleston, S.C., is the company’s first manual lift. The ISP-7M, manufactured by Bravi, has a maximum platform height of 7 ft. 1 in. The 617-lb. unit is 28.7 in. wide and 45 in. long. It has an automatic stationary brake, integrated forklift pockets and an adjustable cargo shelf.

Snorkel boom lift

The A62JRT articulate boom lift
from Snorkel, Elwood, Kan., has a
62-ft. platform height and is built on on
Snorkel’s common Polaris chassis. The A62JRT replaces the Snorkel AB60JRT and is designed to offer what the company says is significantly improved drive and lift capabilities, and it has a 100 percent reduction in tail swing compared to the previous model. The machine has an
up-and-over clearance of 29 ft. 6 in. and an 8-ft.-by-39-in. platform. When stored for transport, the overall length is 27 ft. 10 in.

  MEC Aerial Work Platforms scissor lift

The Crossover 2659 ERT scissor lift from MEC Aerial Work Platforms, Kerman, Calif., has a 26-ft. platform height, four-wheel drive and 48V DC power. The machine is designed to work either on the slab or on dirt and gravel. It has a 59-in. overall width and one-touch auto leveling.
