| General Equipment earth-drilling attachment
The Dig-R-Tach earth-drilling attachment from General Equipment Co., Owatonna, Minn., is designed for use with small and large hydraulic systems on skid-steer loaders, small excavators, knuckleboom cranes and small backhoes. The 671 DIG-R-TACH® Series 16 earth drilling attachment is intended for smaller hydraulic systems, whereas the Series 24 is designed for larger hydraulic systems found with backhoes and excavators. The Series 16 has a two-speed chain/sprocket drive and a 5- to 20-gpm hydraulic flow range to balance smaller flow volumes in proportion to auger diameters.

The Equipment Lock Co. lock
The Stabilizer lock from The Equipment Lock Co., Winchester, Va., locks the stabilizer arm of all backhoes in the downward position, raising a wheel off of the ground. The two-hinged halves surround the exposed hydraulic cylinder and are secured together with a keyed locking system or a built-in four-digit combination lock. It also is available in different lengths, which are designed to work on articulating equipment steering cylinders. The lock also will secure dozer blades, mini excavators and trencher backfill blades in the down position.

The RT200 hydraulic trencher from Vermeer, Pella, Iowa, has a 23-hp Kohler engine and a fully hydrostatic drive system designed to eliminate gears, belts and pulleys, reducing maintenance costs. The unit can trench up to 48 in. deep and 4 in. to 8 in. wide. The RT200 also has steel shielding, a reversible boom, an operator-presence system, color-coded controls, standard tow valve and park brake.

John Deere backhoe
The K-Series backhoe loaders from John Deere, Moline, Ill., includes eight models —310K EP, 310K, 310SK, 310SK TC, 315SK, 410K, 410K TC, 710K — designed to build on the company’s J-Series. The loaders are powered by certified T4i John Deere PowerTech™ engines and equipped with a five-speed transmission that allows up to 25-mph traveling speeds. The cab circulation has been redesigned to circulate cab air from front to back. The joystick also now has equal lever efforts in all directions that the company says provides improved swing control that allows for more precise trench work with less backhoe wag.

The TL310 wheel loader from Terex Construction, Southaven, Miss., handles bucket capacities of 4 to 6 cu. yd. and has a bucket breakout force of 34,534 lbs. The loader has the Terex® loading system, a more spacious operating cab and a cooling system with reversible fan, similar to that on the company’s TL210 and TL260 wheel loaders. TL310 has an operating weight of 38,801 lbs. and a straight tipping load of 29,101 lbs. The cooling system on the TL310 is designed with a wire screen installed in front of the high-volume cooler to protect it from dust and debris. For system cleaning, and to remove fine dust and debris, the fan automatically switches to “reverse” to help clean out the system.

The XT855 excavator/tool carrier from Ditch Witch, Perry, Okla., has a net 30-hp engine that can direct up to 18 hp to the tool carrier end. The machine has a lift capacity of 1,080 lbs. when equipped with optional extension legs. The excavator end of the XT855 has a 260-degree operating radius. The machine also has an isolated engine package designed to minimize engine vibration and noise.

The LP series vibratory trench compactor or trench roller from Atlas Copco, Commerce City, Colo., is designed for the compaction of cohesive and granular soils in trenches and confined areas. The LP trench roller also can be used for compaction work close to obstacles because it does not have any overhanging or protruding parts, the company says. A Bluetooth-based remote control version of the LP trench roller also allows for multiple, individually paired remote units to operate on the job site without crossover or interference.

The Vertical Digging System (VDS) from Wacker Neuson, Menomonee Falls, Wis., is available on select compact excavators. The VDS is designed to compensate for height differences on uneven terrain and quickly sets the operator in an upright position to increase productivity, the company says. The system enables operators to tilt the cab and boom of the excavator by up to 15 degrees with the push of a button, allowing the operator to compensate for slopes up to 27 percent. The excavator can then be used to dig more precisely in a vertical position, which speeds up excavation and backfilling work, the company says, resulting in time and material savings of up to 25 percent.
