Editor’s note: The Party/Special Event area of the show floor at The Rental Show 2012 was bustling with activity as attendees searched for new products and exhibitors showcased their wares and answered questions. Trends ran the gamut, but included rustic items, unique textures and vibrant colors reflecting fashion and home decor trends from the past year. New products ranged from linens, decor and tabletop items, to games, carts, inflatables and lighting. Here are some of the new products that caught our eye while walking the trade show floor.


Air Dimensional Design inflatables

Shape up The AirDD® Hi-Light™ inflatables line from Air Dimensional Design, North Hollywood, Calif., now comes in new shapes. The Air-Flora has optional programmable animation to make it seem like it is blooming and then standing. The Rising Star allows for a tall lighted inflatable without suspension from the ceiling. Suspended Hi-Lights include a metal rigging hook, internal fan and lighting, and standing Hi-Lights include a lightweight base, blower and lights. AirDD also offers various lighted shapes and is working with customers to create custom slipcovers for events.



B & C Mortensen backdrop

Always back up The Tuscan backdrop from B & C Mortensen, Oldtown, Idaho, is 7 ft. 2 in. high, 11 ft. 6 in. wide and weighs 125 lbs. It requires no tools for setup and is completely portable, according to the company. Additional panels can be added for more coverage.



BERG USA pedal go-kart

Room for four The Gran Tour family pedal go-kart from
BERG USA, Lititz, Pa., is designed to be comfortable for two adults and two children, and is made for riding on a boardwalk or paved trail, according to the company. The front passenger seats have seatbelts and are for children under 90 lbs. each. The driver is able to pedal forward, pull the brake to stop and pedal in reverse. The pedaling passenger has independently driven pedals to assist with pedaling forward. The 220-lb. go-kart is 6 ft. 7 in. long, 3 ft. 4 in. wide and 3 ft. 6 in. high.



BlissLights light projectors

Starry, starry night Indoor laser light projectors from
BlissLights, Escondido, Calif., create thousands of stars that move on unique trajectories to illuminate a room. The company offers three different models — the BL-15, BL-50 and the BL-DMX. According to the company, one BlissLight unit can replace four or more standard lighting fixtures, reducing energy consumption. The company says the plug-and-play units use eco-friendly low-voltage lighting.



Boss Manufacturing cake pop flower

Have your cake and eat it too The cake pop flower from Boss Manufacturing, Orland, Calif., is handcrafted from steel with a powder-coated finish. The cake pop flower has five stems shooting up from a 10-in. round base. Each of the petals holds seven cake pops for a total of 35. Each stand is made in the USA.



Breezer Holdings fan

Cooling down The Power Breezer fan from Breezer
Holdings, Deerfield Beach, Fla., cools up to and over 3,000 sq. ft. It has been designed to cool
outdoor or partially covered spaces without getting seats, clothing or sensitive equipment wet, according to the company. The 100-gal. tank can last about four days running at full speed for up to 10 hours a day. The unit is powered by an 110V or 220V electrical plug-in, generator or battery. A solar solution also is available, allowing the units to be powered off the grid.

The Brothers Grimm game

Knock ’em out The Alien Teeth game from The Brothers Grimm Games, Jonesborough, Tenn., is one of several new games the company showcased at The Rental Show. The object is to throw bean bags at the alien to knock out his teeth. The game comes with six bean bags. The company also offers its Voodoo Shockwave game where the objective is to get the wand to the bottom of the voodoo rod and back to win. Touch the rod and a buzzer will sound. The Voodoo Shockwave comes with a 9V battery.



The Chairville Corp. kids chair

Just the right size The Chiavari kids chair from The Chairville Corp., Dallas, is steel welded, has an ergonomic seat and a reclined backrest. The 5.6-lb. chair
has been tested to handle 400-plus lbs. in a static load test, according to the company. The chairs and cushions are available in several colors upon request.



Charnecke Tents tent washer

Cleaning up The BK1000 and BK2000 tent washers from Charnecke Tents, Rosholt, Wis., respectively have 1,000-sq.-ft. capacity and 2,000 sq.-ft. capacity. Both washers are automated and are built on a frame with forklift pockets. The washers can heat 275 gal. to 100 degrees and require a 50-amp/240V service single phase power source. An optional tankless model is available.



Decorative Novelty chandelier set

Use in tandem The chandelier set from Decorative Novelty, Brooklyn, N.Y., includes a small chandelier that is 10 in. in diameter and 36 in. long. The large chandelier is 24 in. in diamater and 18 in. long. Together the chandelier set is 24 in. in diameter and 36 in. long. The 10-lb. set comes in small boxes for easier storage and transport, the company says. The set can be used separately for small tent events or together for larger tent events. The silver color can be used for parties and events, and the iridescent version is designed for weddings.



  Drake Corp. chair link and spacer

Making space The folding chair link and spacer from Drake Corp., East Brunswick, N.J., gives guests 3 in. more space, according to the company. The spacers snap on, so no tools are required. The 33/4-in.-by-11/2-in. space can be replaced by a company logo for a one-time setup fee. The placeholder can be used with a business card, advertising card, reserved seating card, row and seat number card, or event card.



 Eastern Tabletop griller

Three-in-one The REVO Collection from Eastern Tabletop Manufacturing Co., Brooklyn, N.Y., can be used as a griller, warmer and chiller, and includes round and rectangular options. There is an aluminum top and grill top available for each piece.

  EPS-Doublet tent

Stretching out Stretch tents from EPS-Doublet, Denver, are made of 100 percent waterproof stretch fabric and are available in chino, black, red, white and silver grey. Poles can be repositioned to accommodate numbers and create different shapes. The tents are designed to conform to challenging landscapes, such as areas with trees and rocks, and also can be erected with or without poles. The company will custom make tents to size requirements from 20 ft. by 16 ft. through 82 ft. by 59 ft. Two or more tents can be linked together with the company’s gutter system to create larger structures.



Event Products by HEC ottomans

Put your feet up Ottomans from Event Products by Howard Elliott, a/k/a M & M Special Events, Carol Stream, Ill., are designed to go with the company's furniture line and come in a 22-in.-by-12-in. round foot ottoman and a 22-in.-by-18-in. round pouf stool. Ottomans are made of EPS filler with poly fiber padding and are slipcovered. Indoor color options include Soho black, java and white, and Shimmer gold, mercury, pewter and sapphire. Outdoor color options include Atlantis pewter, purple, scarlet, sunflower and white. Additional covers are available upon request.



   Galt International trees

Three sizes Crystal trees from Galt International, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., are available in three sizes — a 4-ft., 6-ft. and 8-ft. three-head metal tree frames. The company also offers 4-ft. crystal garland in clear, pink/clear, green/clear and purple/clear.



 GBS Linens Jute linen

Inspired by burlap Jute linen from GBS Linens, Ontario, Calif., is a wheat-colored, washable, burlap-inspired fabric, in 120-in rounds and table runners, with more sizes to come. The company also offers a sheer swirl organza over sorbet shantung linen.



   Georgia Expo Mfg. Corp. upright

Locks in place The two-and three-piece slip ring tele uprights for pipe and drape from Georgia Expo Manufacturing Corp., Norcross, Ga., are made with an internal locking system that allows the user to adjust to the desired height. The upright works on a ball bearing system and locks in place automatically as the interior pole is raised. The user can disengage the slide lock and lower the upright by hand.



Haulotte Group Biljax staging ramp

ADA compliant The new staging ramp for the AS2100 from Haulotte Group Biljax, Archbold, Ohio, is compliant with the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and has a 1:1 elevation. The 8-ft. ramp works with other Biljax staging, using common parts including decks, guard rail panels and legs. The company says only a few ramp-specific parts are required to complete the ramp.

Jay Import Co. taster sets

Mini-size The Soho mini-taster series from Jay Import Co., New York, are designed for serving small bites with big style, according to the company. They are made of clear lead-free crystal and can be used for casual and formal occasions. The series is available in mini-plates, mini-tinis, mini-bowls and cocktail shooters.


Jomar Table Linens fabric

Not just for potatoes anymore The new table linen fabric from Jomar Table Linens, Ontario, Calif., is made of 100 percent polyester and has the look of jute burlap and the feel of linen. It comes two styles: Prairie™ (pictured) and Sedona™, which has a diamond-shaped pattern woven into it. They are washable, colorfast and made from a heavyweight thread.



Magikitch'n/Pitco outdoor fryer

Auto shut-off Outdoor fryers from Magikitch’n/Pitco, Concord, N.H., now come in two models including the 115,000-Btu MCF14 with a 40-lb. oil capacity and the 150,000-Btu MCF18 with an oil capacity of 65 lbs. Both operate in a stainless-steel cabinet and have 14-in. wheels with lock casters, a 1.25-in. NPT drain valve with a drain pipe extension, two fry baskets per tank and a holder for a 30-lb. vertical propane tank. There is a combination gas shut-off valve and pilot ignition system, and the fryer shuts off if the temperature exceeds a high limit.



Mills Floral Co. diamond glimmer ribbon

Reflections Diamond glimmer ribbon/wrap from Mills Floral Co., Duluth, Ga., can be used around a wedding cake or decorative bowl, as a table runner, to encircle a vase, wrap a floral bouquet, enhance invitations, line serving trays or as a chair tieback. The waterproof
ribbon can be cleaned and reused. The silver ribbon comes in 4.75-in.-wide, 10-yd. rolls.



   National Event Supply melamine products

Lightweight National Event Supply (a Div. of
D & K Imports), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, has added new melamine products to its line, including a 16-in. square melamine bowl, a 20-in. round melamine platter and a 20-in.-by-16.5-in. oval melamine platter. Melamine is designed to be food-safe and much lighter in weight than porcelain.



NTI Global tent sidewalls

Quick turnaround A new option for tent renters from NTI Global, Amsterdam, N.Y., is tentsidewalls.com. The division of NTI Global handles custom orders for sidewalls and also has a variety of sidewalls in stock, including solid and clear vinyl options. “If you order by noon, we can ship the same day,” says owner Sarek Raeburn. The site also includes tent accessories, such as drop cloths, grommets and vinyl rolls.

PartyTouch/ERG Music system

Pump up the jams The PartyTouch Music System from PartyTouch/ERG Music, Buffalo, N.Y., is all digital and features a built-in 400W sound system with powered speaker, microphones and stand, and microphone mixer. It also can be connected to any audio and/or video display system. The system comes with a 17-in. LCD touchscreen for song selection from more than 10,000 hit songs. The music is updated monthly online with the company’s Music Manager Program.



Prestige Linens sheer linen

Colorful New linens from Prestige Linens, Troy, Mich., include the Bridely Sheer, a sequin and petal sheer linen available in white, ivory, ivory/gold and pink, and the Mini Rosette, available in ice blue, white, beige, pink, hunter, ivory, burgundy and platinum.



Progressive Pro/Caterer’s Warehouse cake stand, chargers

More cake The 24-in cake stand from Progressive Pro/Caterer’s Warehouse, Rochdale, Mass., is made of non-tarnish nickel and comes in a floral or contemporary design. The stand, larger than the standard 22-in., is able to hold a five-tier wedding cake or up to 300 lbs., the company says. The company also now has wood-look chargers in mahogany and natural wood with matching napkin rings. Made of lacquered acrylic, the 13-in. chargers are food-safe and should be hand washed.



  PS Furniture/Palmer Snyder Optix tables

Light side Optix tables from PS Furniture/Palmer Snyder, Lexington, Ky., come with an optional battery-powered LED light. The tables are made of polycarbonate and come in amber, red, blue green and clear. The tables measure 24 in. in diameter and come in two heights, 30 in. and 42 in. The company also offers a regulation-size table tennis table. The table folds in half and has handles on the underside of each half for carrying and storage.



RSS Distributors table

Set the table The harvest table from RSS Distributors, Manheim, Pa., is available in a light and dark walnut stain or unfinished. The 104-lb., 8-ft. table has clip-in legs that can be placed in the top for storage and transport. The company also offers a 52-lb. matching bench with an antique walnut finish that measures 8 ft. by 13 in. Tables also are available in a 6-ft. length.



  Something Different Linen Lava and Quarry linens

Machine-washable Lava linen from Something Different Linen, Clifton, N.J., is a contemporary damask available in eight colors. The company also now offers Quarry linen, a textured fabric in six colors. The 120-in.-wide fabrics are 100 percent machine-washable polyester.

Tentandtable.com Zorb ball

Rolling around The Zorb 8-ft. inflatable ball from Tentandtable.com, Buffalo, N.Y., is made of 1.5 mm PVC. The ball has two layers that inflate as well as an opening that inflates separately and handles for transporting the inflated ball. The inner opening is 6 ft. in diameter.



Trystar cable

Striped look Striped cable from Trystar, Faribault, Minn., is designed to have a more streamlined look while helping hide dirt, according to the company. The cable is 95.4 percent black and the rest is a color. The rental company name can be printed on the stripe every foot for identification. The stripe color can be customized and the black portion can be changed to any solid color as well.



Unique Vending Carts push carts

Get your ice cream here The draft beer cart from Unique Vending Carts, Boca Raton, Fla., is one of several push, tow and tricycle carts offered by the company. The carts can be used for a variety of fare including hot dogs, ice cream, beer and shaved ice.



Vitabri Canopies tent

Pop up The V3 high peak tent from Vitabri Canopies, Huntington Beach, Calif., allows anyone to set up a frame tent safely within 30 seconds, according to the company. The V3 high peak is available in three sizes: 10 ft. by 10 ft., 10 ft. by 15 ft. and 10 ft. by 20 ft. It is made in the United States with aluminum poles, stainless-steel fastenings and heavy-duty flame-retardant vinyl tops.



Wire-Free LED CaterLight

Setting the mood The CaterLight from Wire-FreeLED, Orlando, Fla., is a 16.5-lb. battery-powered fixture that uses adjustable LED bulbs. The 38-in. light opens to 29.5 in., is available in various finishes and has multiple brightness settings. LED lights are color-corrected for food presentation, the company says. The light is powered by a sealed lead acid battery that is designed to last 10 hours on a single charge and folds down to 34 in. for compact storage.
