• Hertz Corp., Park Ridge, N.J., said in June that it plans to move forward with expanding its program to co-locate some off-airport Hertz Rent-A-Car branches with Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. (HERC) branches. The pilot program, designed to leverage its sales force and bring increased cost savings through maximizing facilities and resources, was launched March 1 in North Carolina and Washington. In late June, the company also announced plans to expand HERC operations throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico, South America and parts of the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia. HERC currently operates 220 branches in the U.S., 36 branches in Canada, 72 branches in Western Europe and a single branch in China.



• In late May, rental industry veterans Chris Pera, Rick Raab and Shawn Deegan, with the support of Minneapolis business partners John “JT” Kubiski, Joe Novogratz and Don Beaupre of Beaupre Aerial Equipment, formed the HiReach Group in King of Prussia, Pa., and have opened an aerial equipment specialty location to serve the tri-state area. The primary focus of the business will be in the area of rental, sales, service and parts for aerial and rough-terrain forklift products representing the full line of JLG equipment. “The combined experience of we, the owner operators, exceeds 100 years and have each come to appreciate the difference between providing both customers and employees the sum of support, products and character that differs from anyone in the industry,” Pera said.
