Turner named president-elect

Four directors also elected to join ARA board

Terry Turner

All Occasions Party Rentals, Knoxville, Tenn.

American Rental Association (ARA) general members have elected Terry Turner as the new president-elect of the association. Turner is president of All Occasions Party Rentals in Knoxville, Tenn. He currently serves as Party & Event Services Shared Interest Group chairman on the ARA board of directors and will complete his three-year term in February 2014. In addition, he currently is serving a second year on the ARA Executive Committee, by appointment of the ARA president.

“We are experiencing a lot of momentum right now. The industry is projected to grow at four times GDP, organizations like the ARA Foundation are thriving, ARAPAC and the government affairs program are working hard for the industry, and enthusiasm for The Rental Show is as high as ever. In the coming year, our task is to keep that forward momentum going for the industry and ARA. Part of that is continuing to promote awareness across the industry of all the products and services ARA has to offer,” Turner says.

“We also have a lot of great young people in the industry right now who could be influential leaders of ARA. We need to continue to identify them and challenge them to share their time and talents to keep the association strong into the future,” Turner says.

When Turner assumes the office of ARA president-elect at the conclusion of The Rental Show 2014 in Orlando, Fla., Paul Phelon, president of Timp Rental Center with stores in Orem and American Fork, Utah, will become ARA president. Mike Blaisdell, vice president of Bunce Rental in Tacoma, Wash., and current ARA president, will assume the position of chairman of the board. Mike Flesher, president of Taylor Rental Center, with locations in Vestal and Ithaca, N.Y., ARA’s current chairman of the board, will complete his ARA board service.

Brendon Blood

Blood’s Catering & Party Rentals, White River Junction, Vt.

Brendon Blood was elected ARA’s Region One director. He will succeed Russ Dagenais, president of Taylor Rental Center in Wallingford, Conn. Blood is general manager of Blood’s Catering & Party Rentals, a single-store operation located in White River Junction, Vt. He spent several years on the ARA of Vermont board of directors and on the Party & Event Services Shared Interest Group.

“I would like to encourage more people to become members of the ARA, for whatever reason is important to them,” Blood says. “I think that can be done by explaining all that ARA really has to offer. Then prospective members can see that whatever is spent on membership comes back tenfold.”

Willie Strange

Eagle Rentals, Seguin, Texas

Willie Strange was elected ARA’s Region Four director. She will succeed Jimmy Pate, president of Pate’s Rental in Comanche, Texas. Strange is co-owner of Eagle Rentals, with locations in Seguin, New Braunfels and San Marcos. She is immediate past president of the Texas Rental Association and was named ARA Region Four Person of the Year in 2013.

“I’m here to be a helper,” Strange says. “I want to assist state association presidents within Region Four in growing participation at their state meetings and events, helping them attract younger rental professionals and promoting ARA in their state associations. I plan to attend all of their state association meetings so I can meet and get to know everyone.”

Kevin Hoffman

A to Z RentAll & Sales, Madison, Wis.

Kevin Hoffman was elected ARA’s Region Five director. He will succeed Terry Trusgnich, president of Aide Rentals & Sales II in Highland, Ind. Hoffman is president of A to Z RentAll and Sales in Wisconsin. He was on the ARA of Wisconsin board of directors for six years and was named ARA Region Five Person of the Year in 2000.

“I am looking forward to visiting the various state and local associations around the region and hope to be a conduit between ARA and the members in Region Five. After attending the ARA Leadership Conference in October I am particularly enthused about the next generation of rental leaders and I hope to facilitate their involvement with ARA.”

Tony Sabo

Graco, Rogers, Minn.

ARA general and associate members have elected Tony Sabo as Associate Member director. He will succeed Pam Meyer, equipment sales manager for Subaru Industrial Power Products, Lake Zurich, Ill. Sabo is the sales and marketing manager for Graco’s rental business and products. Graco is a manufacturer of fluid-handling equipment and systems headquartered in Rogers, Minn.

“I’m hoping to help vendors understand how valuable ARA can be for them,” Sabo says. “I plan to spend time communicating to the vendors about what’s available to them and shed some light on the services and partnerships ARA has to offer that can benefit the vendor community.”

Phelon makes appointments to the ARA board and Executive Committee

Bibbo is president of Event Source in Cleveland, and he has previously served on the ARA Advertising & Marketing Committee, Events & Tents Task Force, Party & Event Services SIG and The Rental Show Task Force.
