  • Hertz Equipment Rental Corp., Park Ridge, N.J., has entered into a franchise agreement with Consolidation Services through its wholly owned subsidiary Mongolia Equipment Rental Corp. As a result, Consolidation Services will have the exclusive license to provide rental equipment in Mongolia using the Hertz Equipment brand, starting July 1, 2013. “We are very excited to launch in Mongolia through our partnership with Consolidation Services. The nation is one of the most exciting new markets for the world’s mining industry. With its double-digit GDP growth — estimated at 15.74 percent by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for 2013 — and an influx of foreign investments, the country is also experiencing a boom in construction and infrastructure development,” said Lois Boyd, group president, Hertz Equipment Rental Corp. Hertz Equipment Mongolia will offer a range of mining, construction and infrastructure development equipment for rent and sale, along with spare parts, repair and other services.
  • United Rentals, Greenwich, Conn., has expanded its specialty rental branch network with the addition of United Rentals Power & HVAC branches in Hampton, Va., Lake Charles, La., and Phoenix to provide engineered power and climate control solutions for commercial, industrial and governmental customers, and disaster recovery services. The company now has 116 specialty operations and 830 total branches in the United States and Canada. Paul McDonnell, senior vice president – operations, trench safety, power and HVAC, said, “We are accelerating the growth of our footprint in response to customer demand for innovation and productivity in a wide range of specialized applications. The latest openings are part of a planned expansion for 2013 that will build on United Rentals’ strategic position as the leading single-source provider of safe, efficient site solutions.”
  • Kobelco Construction Machinery USA has opened its new North American headquarters in Houston. Following the termination of a 10-year agreement with CNH in late December, Kobelco is directly marketing its excavators in the U.S. and Canada. The current facility will serve as a temporary home base for the company while a custom headquarters and manufacturing facility is built nearby. A comprehensive parts inventory will be on hand at this location, with equipment being stored near the Port of Galveston, Texas, as well as several other strategically located ports around the country.
  • IronPlanet®, Pleasanton, Calif., an online marketplace for used heavy equipment, has launched TruckPlanet, an online marketplace for buying and selling used commercial trucks. “We are very excited to bring the same marketplace that changed the used equipment business to the truck industry,” said Greg Owens, CEO of IronPlanet. “Truck buyers and sellers can now enjoy the convenience and confidence at TruckPlanet that our used equipment customers have come to know and trust at IronPlanet.”
