Anniversary exhibitors: 50 years of exhibiting

At The Rental Show 2013 in Las Vegas, three exhibitors will celebrate 50 years of exhibiting at the world’s largest rental-specific convention and trade show organized by the American Rental Association (ARA).

The three companies are Alan Manufacturing, Niles, Ill.; Doosan Portable Power, Statesville, N.C.; and New Holland Construction, Racine, Wis.

“Our involvement dates back to my grandfather, Vernon Brooks, participating at the early tabletop shows with Leonard Hawk in Moline, Ill.,” says Philip Brooks, sales manager, Alan Manufacturing.

His father, Philip Brooks Sr., continued the family tradition and Brooks remembers going to some of the regional shows when he was small boy. Today, he says attending the show is a must to continue to build rapport with customers for the company’s floor and carpet care products for installation, maintenance and removal of flooring.

“We’re more of a mail-order company, so the convention is our only real physical contact with the rental stores, so it is very important for us to go to see our customers,” he says.

While Doosan Portable Power has had different owners and different names over the past 50 years, exhibiting at The Rental Show has been a constant.

“It’s the best, cost-effective way to get face-to-face with as many customers as possible within a short period of time. People recognize us at the show and people want to do business with people they know,” says Joe Jabbour, Doosan Portable Power’s sales and marketing manager, who says The Rental Show 2013 will be the 41st consecutive show he’s attended.

“Our commitment is to every phase of the show. We have exhibit space, we are a gold sponsor and we donate equipment to the ARA Foundation auction. Through good times and bad times, ARA is there for us and we want the rental industry also to count on Doosan the same as ARA,” Jabbour says.

David Stahlman, vice president, Doosan Portable Power, says the show also gives the company an opportunity to educate and share information about its new products. “We’re there to help our customers learn and grow,” Stahlman says.

Curtis Goettel, brand marketing manager at New Holland Construction, says The Rental Show is an important part of the company’s strategy to focus on rental companies.
