David Wilcox II of General Rental Center, Frankfort, Ky., has been elected vice president of the American Rental Association for 2000. Ballots were counted Sept. 13.
Wilcox has been a member of the A.R.A. since 1981 and active in the rental industry since 1977. He is a member of the A.R.A. of Kentucky and served as its first vice president, president/ treasurer, chairman of the board and legislative chairman.
Wilcox served as Region Five director from 1996 to 1998. This year, he is a member of the A.R.A. Governmental Affairs Committee, ARAPAC and the MBA Ad Hoc Committee. In 1998, Wilcox served on the A.R.A. Executive and Budget Committees. In 1997, he served on the Long-Range Planning Committee. He attended the A.R.A. Governmental Affairs Conference in 1994 and was a State and Local Leadership delegate in 1995.
Wilcox also was a member of the A.R.A. Region Five Conference Committee in 1992.
He received the Region Five Person of the Year award in 1990 and an A.R.A. honorary award in 1995 that recognized him for lobbying Congress on behalf of the A.R.A. and the Kentucky Rental Association.
Wilcox, who defeated Ray Robinson, co-owner of United Rental Center, Monroeville, Pa., will take office at the end of the 44th Annual A.R.A. Convention and Rental Trade Show next February in Anaheim, Calif.
A.R.A. Senior Vice President Frank Wilson of Frank Wilson's Tents & Events, Augusta, Ga., will take over as A.R.A. president, Vice President Charlie Neffle, owner of All Occasions Event Rental, Cincinnati, will become senior vice president and outgoing President Richard Paquette of Pyramide Rental Centers, Chateauguay, Quebec, Canada, will move up to chairman, pending approval by the A.R.A. Board of Directors.
The new directors, who were elected to three-year terms, are as follows:
Region Six
Ivan Barthel,
Barthel's Rental, Blaine, Minn.
Barthel has been involved in the rental business since 1973 and a member of the A.R.A. since 1978. He is a member of the A.R.A. of Minnesota and has served as its president, vice president and treasurer. He has been its legislative chairperson since 1996. Barthel has been active in the A.R.A.'s Political Action Committee (ARAPAC) and attended the National Legislative Caucus for the past 10 years.
He also served on the Region Six Planning Committee from 1995 to 1996.
In 1994, Barthel received the Region Six Person of the Year Award.
Region Seven
Tom Price,
Grand Rental Center, Pueblo, Colo.
Grand Rental Center was established in 1963 and joined the A.R.A. the same year. Price has been involved in the rental business since 1971. He is a member of the A.R.A. of Colorado and served on the A.R.A. Membership Committee from 1989 to 1990.
Region Eight
Roger Odegard, AA Rentals/
AARENCO, Lynnwood, Wash.
AA Rentals/AARENCO has been a member of the A.R.A. since 1965. Odegard has been an owner of the business since 1972. He is a member of the A.R.A. of Washington and has served as its president since 1998.
He also holds a membership in the Rental Equipment Association of Washington and has served as its secretary/treasurer, vice president and president.
He served as chairperson of the A.R.A. Advertising Committee from 1984 to 1985. Odegard participated in the A.R.A. National Legislative Caucuses the past two years.
In 1986, Odegard received the A.R.A.'s Region Eight Person of the Year Award.
Region 10
Doron Broadfoot, The Rent It Store,
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada
Broadfoot has been involved in the rental business since 1972 and a member of the A.R.A. since 1975. He is a member of the Rental Association of Canada and served on the Saskatch-ewan RAC Board of Directors as president from 1982 to 1985, national director from 1986 to 1989, second vice president in 1989, president in 1990 and chairperson from 1991 to 1992.
He served on RAC's Law Reform Committee from 1986 to 1989, Advertising and Rental Awareness Committee from 1986 to 1988 and Nominating and Awards Committee in 1989. He served on the A.R.A. Membership Committee from 1991 to 1992. In 1986, he received the RAC's President's Image Award.
Associate Member Director-at-Large
Baron Lyhne, Komatsu Forklift U.S.A., Woodbridge, Va.
Lyhne joined McLean Rentals as sales manager in 1986. When McLean's owner started Theros Equipment in 1996, Lyhne worked as its national ac-counts manager until February. He then became the national account executive for Komatsu when the company acquired Theros Forklift Division.
He is a member of the National Capital Area Rental Association and served as vice president in 1991 and 1995, president in 1996, chairman of the board in 1997 and member director since 1998.
He is on the A.R.A. Membership Committee this year. Lyhne also participated in the 1995 State and Local Presidents' Leadership Conference.
The company has been an A.R.A. associate member since 1987 and has participated as an exhibitor at the A.R.A. annual convention for 13 years. Lyhne will serve a one-year term.
