Defining general tool

The rental industry's second-largest segment is different than it used to be

Renting tools is how many independent rental companies got started in the rental business. Even today, nearly 20 percent of American Rental Association (ARA) member rental companies and branches say they derive 50 percent or more of their revenue from general tool rental. Click here.

General tool has been the fastest-growing rental segment over the last decade with a compound annual growth rate of 11.1 percent from 1998 to 2007 according to the 2007 State of the Equipment Rental Industry report completed by Lexington, Mass.-based Global Insight for the American Rental Association (ARA) and Rental Management.
